Dr. Naomi Ben-Ami is a licensed clinical psychologist who conducts psychotherapy with both individuals and couples. She specializes in issues related to depression, anxiety, relationship problems, identity struggles, life adjustments and transitions, issues related to sex and sexuality, and trauma. She also has experience working with clients to manage strong emotions, chronic shame, and self-criticism.

Dr. Ben-Ami is a client-centered, solution-focused, integrative therapist. Her treatment approach draws largely from Dialectal Behavior Therapy, insight oriented psychotherapies, and mindfulness and cognitive and behavioral based models.

In the room, Dr. Ben-Ami seeks to create a warm, collaborative, and supportive environment, and is an active participant in sessions. Dr. Ben-Ami integrates opposing therapeutic strategies, including balancing acceptance of current circumstances while also working towards change, and gently challenging clients, while also providing validation and support. Dr. Ben-Ami works with clients to gain insight into patterns of thinking and behavior in the service of enhancing self awareness and developing more effective and creative solutions to life’s challenges. Dr. Ben-Ami also highlights and utilizes the individual’s inherent strengths and skills to promote growth and maximize the potential of clients.

Dr. Ben-Ami received her masters and doctoral degree in clinical psychology at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University. Her doctoral research and related publications have focused on adults who experienced parental alienation in their childhood. Her previous clinical experience includes work as a staff psychologist at the Mount Sinai Roosevelt Hospital’s Center for Intensive Treatment of Personality Disorders as well as positions in New York based college counseling centers and community mental health clinics.
