Psychologists Maureen Lindmeier and Jacob Kaplan join the Williamsburg Therapy Group team!

30 Jul Psychologists Maureen Lindmeier and Jacob Kaplan join the Williamsburg Therapy Group team!

As Williamsburg has radically transformed over the years, so has the need for mental health care in our community. Rather than hopping on the L or staying late in the city after work, you can now receive high quality therapy within blocks of your home. We started with one office, one psychologist, and one psychiatrist only 4 months ago. As of today, we have added two additional psychologists and an additional office at our Grand Street location. We are so grateful that the neighborhood has embraced us. We have grown exponentially by word of mouth and referrals from our community medical/mental health partners. Thank you for your warm welcome residents of Williamsburg.

Dr. Maureen Lindmeier is a licensed clinical psychologist. She practices relationally focused psychotherapy for individuals, couples and families who struggle with a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and adjustment problems. She specializes in psychological issues associated with trauma and other anxiety disorders, and has several years of experience working with children and families.

Dr. Lindmeier is well versed in a variety of treatment approaches and has a diverse clinical background. Her theoretical frame of reference is psychodynamic; however, she uses a variety of other treatment approaches in order to meet the specific needs of her clients.(READ MORE)

Dr. Lindmeier believes that people are complex and often unaware of the many forces that drive or limit them. Her work goes beyond the targeting of certain symptoms and instead aims to help people find meaning and purpose in their lives, unlock creative potential, and strengthen their relationship to themselves and other people. Dr. Lindmeier considers therapy a mutual contract between therapist and client aimed toward the goal of alleviating the client’s suffering and helping him or her to live a more realistic and satisfying life.
Another area of Dr. Lindmeier’s expertise is in psychological evaluations and treatment for children and adolescents with complex trauma histories and related problems, as well as parent management training for families with children having disruptive behavior problems. She views the parent-child attachment as the foundation of our development and believes it is immensely important in shaping our life long behavioral patterns, self-esteem, and emotional well-being.

Dr. Lindmeier holds a Bachelors degree, a Masters degree, and a Doctorate in Psychology. She obtained her Bachelors from University of Wisconsin-Madison and both her Masters and Doctorate degrees from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Francisco. She completed both her predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California San Francisco. In addition to her clinical background, Dr. Lindmeier has experience in educational consultation, social services and working with youth.

Dr. Jacob Kaplan is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Williamsburg Therapy Group with over 5 years of clinical experience working with adults, adolescents, and children suffering from a wide range of emotional difficulties.

Dr. Kaplan has spent the past 3 years working at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute, providing successful long-term and short-term psychoanalytically influenced and psychodynamic psychotherapy. Dr. Kaplan has also received extensive training and experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Brief Relational Therapy, and caters each case to the specific needs of his clients.
Dr. Kaplan’s doctoral research specifically examined the relationship between Mindfulness and psychotherapy. This research interest comes out of a nearly 15-year practice of meditation and yoga. Dr. Kaplan uses Mindfulness Practice as a way of helping clients become more aware of their interpersonal patterns and also to help cope with feelings of depression, anxiety, and emotional disregulation.
Dr. Kaplan believes that successful therapeutic treatment comes from a deep understanding of our pasts, coupled with a solution-based treatment with direct action in the present. Working with children, adults, and couples/families, Dr. Kaplan believes it is important to have an ongoing dialogue about the goals of treatment and what can be done in order to achieve those goals.

In addition to psychotherapy, Dr. Jacob Kaplan has extensive background in Psychological and Neuropsychological testing and assessment. Dr. Kaplan has performed full testing batteries and written reports for adults and students in both public and private schools around the city, and has helped in diagnosing ADD/ADHD, Verbal and Non-Verbal Learning Disabilities, and other cognitive and emotional difficulties that are getting in the way of a child, adolescent, or adult reaching their full potential.

Dr. Kaplan received his PhD in Clinical Psychology from the New School for Social Research in New York City.
