Dr. Alexandra Schira, Psy.D.
Dr. Alexandra Mercurio Schira, Psy.D. is a post-doctoral psychologist at Williamsburg Therapy Group who provides psychotherapy to a diverse client population of individuals, couples, families, and children. Her clinical interests and specialties include: trauma, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, anger and aggression, early childhood intervention, parenting, emerging adulthood, and life adjustment and transitions. Dr. Schira utilizes an integrative and collaborative approach to psychotherapy with her clients, drawing from Psychodynamic, Attachment, Family Systems, and Cognitive Behavioral approaches.
Dr. Schira works to provide a warm, non-judgmental, and empathic approach in treatment to meet clients where they are, define their concerns, and work towards improving their lives in meaningful and empowering ways. Dr. Schira takes specific interest in understanding each individual’s perspective and history, and assists clients in developing a better sense of relating to themselves and others.
Dr. Schira received her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University Post, and completed her pre-doctoral internship at Lincoln Hospital in the South Bronx. Her previous clinical training experiences include working in both inpatient and outpatient settings at New York City public hospitals, state psychiatric hospitals, community clinics, and schools.
Additionally, Dr. Schira is committed to the advancement of psychological research and training and has presented at numerous professional and academic conferences, with an emphasis on interventions for at-risk youth. Her dissertation research was focused on the development and implementation of a short-term, school-based, integrative play therapy treatment for aggressive preschoolers. Dr. Schira also provides professional consultations and training in comprehensive interventions for aggressive youth.
