Irina Gorelik, Psy.D.

Child Psychologist

Dr. Irina Gorelik is a bilingual (English/Russian speaking) child psychologist who has experience providing psychotherapy with children, adolescents, and parents. Within the child population, her clinical interests and specialties include integrative play and skills based child therapy, parent-child relationships/attachment, anxiety disorders, and managing behavioral issues across settings. Dr. Gorelik also has interest and experience working with adolescents and emerging adults with anxiety, depression, trauma, and adjustment issues.

Dr. Gorelik utilizes a collaborative, warm, and active approach to psychotherapy, working together with clients (and their families, when appropriate) to integrate their past experiences with the present, while helping them develop more adaptive ways of coping with life’s challenges. Dr. Gorelik draws from various treatment modalities and theoretical orientations (such as Psychodynamic talk/play therapies, CBT, Attachment Theory, DBT) to best meet the client’s individual needs.

Dr. Gorelik received her doctoral degree in School-Clinical Psychology from Pace University, where her training involved a combination of school-based and clinical sites. Her training within NYS school systems allowed for a more in-depth understanding of some of the challenges children face in schools, both socially and academically. Dr. Gorelik is interested in promoting parental advocacy and is able to collaborate with school personnel to ensure clients are receiving the services they may require across settings.

Dr. Gorelik completed her pre-doctoral internship at Maimonides Medical Center, where she provided inpatient and outpatient therapy across the lifespan. Dr. Gorelik joined the Maimonides team as a Staff Child Psychologist following her training, where she works with children ages 5-18 and their parents. She also conducts clinical supervision with psychiatry residents and psychology trainees in therapy and psychological testing, and coordinates the Child Psychology Externship Program. Outside of therapy, Dr. Gorelik has also served as an adjunct instructor teaching undergraduate Developmental Psychology as well as Introductory Psychology.
